A dangerous copy of the popular WhatsApp application called FMWhatsapp has been alerted by Kaspersky, a cyber security company. The modification spreads the mobile Trojan horse Triad.
“The triad is downloading more Trojans to the device. They can control the phone or, for example, run advertisements,” the portal said Threat Post. In addition, they can connect device owners to paid services or monitor SMS messages.
Therefore, people should be very careful what application they download to their mobile phone. “We do not recommend using unofficial application modifications. You may end up with an inadvertently paid subscription or lose control of your account,” warned Kaspersky security expert Igor Golovin.
If users download the application, they cannot subsequently prevent these illegal activities. “It is very difficult for people to identify a potential threat, because the application does only what is designed, ie it adds additional features,” Golovin concluded.
