Darmstadt (ots) – Many residents in Darmstadt are currently receiving suspicious calls. So far, as of 12 noon, far more than ten such phone calls have been reported to the police. Using the usual scam, the fraudsters tried to make the mostly older people believe they were police officers and asked about their personal circumstances. What is significant about the currently reported cases is that all those called can be found in the phone book with a doctorate.
The callers told the story of arrested intruders in the neighborhood or various variations of the incident. When they were arrested, the perpetrators had a slip of paper with the name of the person called. Now their belongings have to be brought to a safe place, i.e. given into the hands of the criminals. According to the current state of knowledge, those called saw through the scam in good time and ended the conversation.
The real police repeatedly warn in this regard:
Do not give any information about your financial or personal circumstances on the phone. The police do not ask you to hand over anything of value. If you have the slightest doubt, notify the police station responsible for your place of residence and talk to your next of kin about the call. In an emergency, dial 110! Due to the increased number of reported attempts at fraud, the police are also informing via HessenWarn.
