Attention Australian travellers to Bali: beware of fake visa websites that imitate the Indonesian government’s official site for prepaying electronic visas on arrival (e-VOA). Reports of scamming have flooded social media, with many travellers losing money to these fraudulent pages. Some have even purchased invalid visas, leaving them no choice but to buy an official visa at the airport upon arrival. The Indonesian government has warned tourists to only use their official website to apply for visas, as many counterfeit versions of the site exist. To avoid falling victim to a visa scam, apply for visas using links recommended by the embassy or consulate of the country you’re visiting. Don’t risk being arrested, jailed, or deported on arrival. For more information about visa scams, visit the Department of Home Affairs. Safe travels!
