Beware of Facebook Scam Targeting Friends: Finnish Woman Scammed out of 150,000 Euros

A woman received a message from her friend’s profile on Facebook Messenger. In fact, the message was written by fraudsters who hacked a friend’s Facebook account. The message asked the woman for a phone number for a contest, and soon a message was sent that she had won the grand prize.

The fraudsters then asked for a bank account number and online banking credentials in order to transfer the winning prize money. After receiving this information, the fraudster clears the victim’s account.

Police are reminding people to be careful when receiving messages on social networks asking for personal details.
