Beware of Dengue Fever! Here are 6 Symptoms

Monitorindonesia.comDengue hemorrhagic fever or DHF is an easily transmitted disease originating from mosquito bites Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. This disease is caused by one of the four dengue viruses.

Many cases of DHF are fatal due to delay in treatment. This is why it is very important to know the symptoms of dengue fever. In general, this health problem will cause symptoms between four to 10 days after the body is bitten by this type of mosquito Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. If this occurs in children for the first time, the symptoms can be more severe than in adults.

Causes and Risk Factors for Dengue Fever

The two mosquitoes that cause dengue usually infect a person in the morning until late in the evening. Transmission occurs when a mosquito bites and sucks the blood of someone who has been infected with the dengue virus, when the mosquito bites another person, the virus will spread.

You could say, mosquitoes act as carriers of the dengue virus. In addition to mosquito bites, dengue fever is triggered by certain risk factors. Some of these risk factors, including:

  • Have had a previous dengue virus infection
  • Living or traveling to the tropics,
  • Infants, children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.

Dengue Fever Symptoms

Generally, the symptoms of dengue fever are mild, and appear 4-7 days after the mosquito bite, and can last for 10 days. Symptoms usually resemble those of the flu, and can get worse if treated too late. Some of the symptoms of dengue fever, namely:

  • High fever reaching 40 degrees Celsius

Fever is a symptom of almost all health problems. However, in DHF, fever will occur suddenly. Another difference is that the fever in DHF can reach 40 degrees Celsius, and is not followed by other symptoms, such as runny nose, stuffy nose, or cough. Usually, the fever will last between two and seven days.

A few hours after experiencing a fever, the next symptom that appears is a severe headache that occurs around the forehead. Severe headaches are also accompanied by pain at the back of the eye. This condition is a common symptom that often occurs. Maybe taking some headache medicine can help relieve it.

  • Pain in joints, muscles and bones

Not only fever, people with DHF also tend to feel pain in several parts of the body, such as muscles, bones, joints, and behind the eyes. Usually, these symptoms will be followed by sweating and chills. The duration of the occurrence of these symptoms is between 4 to 10 days when the virus enters the body. Muscle aches also occur along with headaches and high fever.

Other symptoms of dengue fever that can occur in children and adults are nausea and vomiting. This disorder is also included in digestive problems which can also cause discomfort in the stomach or back. This problem can occur for two to four days after exposure to the virus enters and attacks the body.

Fever accompanied by muscle pain and digestive problems that occur in people with dengue can make their appetite decrease. As a result, the body becomes tired due to lack of food intake and a weakened immune system.

  • Red rash about 2-5 days after fever

A red rash is the most typical symptom of dengue. The rash in dengue fever is usually reddish or pale pink in color that appears on the face, chest, hands and feet. Symptoms of DHF usually begin on the third day and last for 2-3 days.
