YOGYAKARTA, iNews.id – Epidemiologist Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Citra Indriani, asked the public to be aware of the arrival of the rainy season. The change from the dry season to the rainy season has the potential to pose a threat of disease dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and leptospirosis.
“Entering the rainy season, there is a potential for an increase in dengue cases because it is a breeding ground for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, so that transmission will be higher,” said Citra, Wednesday (11/10/2021).
One way to prevent transmission is to carry out the 3M movement, namely draining, closing, and burying. In addition, it is also recommended to use mosquito repellent lotion or mosquito nets to avoid mosquito bites.
The rainy season also has the potential to cause flooding or puddles. This must be watched out for as a place of transmission of leptospira bacteria which is spread through rat urine. These bacteria can infect humans through the skin, especially if there is a wound.
“Try to always use footwear to avoid leptospirosis,” said the FKKMK lecturer and researcher at the UGM Center for Tropical Medicine.
