Do not swallow water and take a good shower
Blue-green algae can cause problems, especially for people with sensitive skin and small children. Possible effects in humans are skin and mucous membrane irritation, conjunctivitis, vomiting, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, weakness, impaired consciousness, muscle cramps and allergic reactions.
The most important basic rule is: Only swim and bathe in clear water. Accumulation of algae and cloudy and discolored water should be avoided. Places where flakes, streaks or a greasy film form on the water should also be avoided. It is also not recommended to swallow water. After bathing, take a good shower and dry thoroughly.
Blue-green algae can be fatal to dogs
Special care should be taken when traveling with a dog. Because the symptoms can appear in dogs just a few minutes after contact and can quickly lead to death. Symptoms that often occur in combination and can indicate blue-green algae poisoning are lethargy and general malaise, excessive salivation, fever, vomiting or diarrhea, disorientation, twitching and cramps, breathing problems or shortness of breath, vomiting, diarrhea, impaired consciousness, muscle tremors, paralysis and cramps.
