PRAGUE You don’t use – you pay. With such logic comes the world-famous PayPal service. If it is not used, everyone pays 300 crowns a year for an otherwise free service.

The secure payment gateway was popular with customers all over the world, also because it was free and it didn’t cost anything to set it up. However, many have a PayPal account and rarely use it, and they should pay attention. From December 16, PayPal will introduce new conditions for some European countries, including the Czech Republic. The financial platform is informing users about this by e-mail these days.

They also include a one-time annual fee for holders of an inactive or forgotten account. “We are introducing an inactivity fee for accounts that have not been active for at least 12 consecutive months,” PayPal said in an email.
The fee of 300 crowns, in other countries it is 12 euros or 12 pounds, will be paid by those users who did not use the account for payment, sending funds or did not log in at all. The amount will be automatically deducted from the account in full or in the balance. How PayPal will proceed in the case of a zero balance is not defined in the terms and conditions.
The editorial staff of the Lidovky.cz server asked the Czech Trade Inspection Authority whether such procedures are in accordance with the law. The inspection has not yet commented.
In addition to the Czech Republic, the novelty also concerns Slovakia, Great Britain, Bulgaria, Hungary and other European countries. You can cancel your account here.
