During his fifty-year career in Hollywood, Ashton appeared in more than 200 film, television and stage roles.

In the movie Beverly Hills Cop, he introduced a strict and diligent detective who always seemed to be against the chaotic Axel Foley played by Eddie Murphy. He remained faithful to this role in later roles as well. Fans and critics alike have especially praised his portrayal in the latest installment, which premiered on Netflix this year.

Czech viewers remember him from the movie Midnight Run, where he played with Robert de Niro.

Ashton has appeared in many popular series. For example, the M*A*S*H, Dallas, where he played the character of Willie Joe Garr, or the detective series Colombo can be named for all of them.
