American comedian John Ashton died in Fort Collins, Colorado, his manager confirmed to our colleagues at “Variety”. He was 76 years old.
The career of the actor born on February 22, 1948 in Springfield spanned five decades, both on television and in the cinema. “An Eye for an Eye” (1973), “So Evil, My Sister” (1974), “Cat Murkil and the Silks” (1976), “Breaking Away” (1979), “Borderline” (1980), “Honky Tonk Freewa » (1981) and “Gone Baby Gone” (2007) are notably films where John Ashton distinguished himself.
But it was by playing Detective Sergeant John Taggart, in the first two “Beverly Hills Cop” (1984 and 1987), alongside Eddie Murphy and Judge Reinhold, that he achieved worldwide fame. John Ashton reprized this role, both funny and touching, in the new film in the saga released last July, “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F”.

The actor also made an impression on the public in the role of a bounty hunter as brutal as he is clumsy, Marvin Dorfler, opposite Robert De Niro, in the irresistible action comedy “Midnight Run” (1988).
On television, John Ashton had appeared in a number of series, including “Columbo”, “Barnaby Jones”, “MASH”, “Starsky and Hutch” and even “Dallas”.
John Ashton was married with two children.
