“Between the Pen and the Blood” a box office success

The cycle of performances of the play “Entre la pluma y la sangre” (Between the pen and blood), by the Iquique playwright Iván Vera-Pinto Soto, performed by the Teatro Universitario Expresión, began with an unusual success among the public and excellent reviews. It is worth remembering that this play will be on the billboard every Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m., until the first week of December at the Sala Veteranos del 79, Zegers 150.

The pleasant impact of the content of the work and its theatrical production has captured the attention of various trade and social entities, as well as high school and university students, who are arranging their presence for this season.

The plot of “Entre la pluma y la sangre” is set in the historical context of the Great Depression of the 1930s in Chile. This unprecedented economic crisis left a deep mark on the country and the world, plunging millions of people into poverty and unemployment.

The work shockingly exposes the devastating consequences of the crisis on the lives of Chileans. Mass unemployment and a decrease in job opportunities created precarious living conditions for the working class. The lack of adequate housing, malnutrition and the scarcity of basic services became a desperate reality for many.

Furthermore, this creation addresses the control exercised by the government and economic elites over the media during that period. The manipulation of information made it difficult to expose the true situation in the country, perpetuating the status quo and hiding social injustices.

The repression of any attempt at organisation and protest by workers is another crucial aspect of the argument. The government and economic elites imposed coercive measures to maintain control and prevent social uprisings, which limited the ability of workers to fight for their rights and improve their living conditions.

The cast includes Patricia Torres, Juan Carlos Medina, Andro Gárate, Maritza Macaya, Carolina Pérez, Angélica García, Michael Quiroga, Harold Hurtado and Tito Alarcón. Theatrical design and production are by Jeannette Baeza Rivero, with the general artistic direction of Iván Vera-Pinto S.

Admission is free, and only a charitable contribution for the actors is requested.
