“Between People”: Augsburg State Theater’s 2023/24 Program Focuses on Interpersonal Relationships After COVID-19 Pandemic and Ukrainian Conflict

After the Corona crisis and the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, the Augsburg State Theater wants to focus on interpersonal relationships. Director André Bücker said on Tuesday at the presentation of the 2023/24 program that the theme of the coming season “Between People” emphasizes the interaction of people. It is important to bring this back into focus after the isolation in the pandemic. “This is actually visible in many pieces in a wide variety of aspects,” said Bücker.

When it comes to programming, the Staatstheater is focusing on a mixture of classics such as Bertolt Brecht’s “Mother Courage and Her Children” (from February 23, 2024), William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” (from May 18, 2024) and modern plays. Several world premieres are planned, for example the chamber opera «C:>title Labyrinth» by Hauke Berheide (from March 22, 2024). From September 30, 2023, ballet director Ricardo Fernando will stage his own play “Charlie”, a tribute to Hollywood legend Charles Chaplin.
