Between one and three inches of snow will fall on New York this Monday

The northeastern United States is preparing to withstand a fierce winter storm that will cover the area in heavy snow and obstruct transportation for several days.

Central Ohio received 3 to 5 inches of snow Sunday morning, leaving its streets very slippery. More snow is expected during the day and even more in Pennsylvania.

Between 3 and 7 centimeters (between 1 and 3 inches) of snow will fall on Monday in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, the National Weather Service predicted. It is even anticipated that at some point there will be severe conditions and an accumulation of between 30 and 45 centimeters (between 12 and 18 inches) of snow.

Temperatures will be between minus 6 degrees Celsius and minus 1 degree Celsius (between 20 and 30 Fahrenheit) in the New York metropolitan area.

It should start snowing Monday morning in Massachusetts and there will be a 30-centimeter (one-foot) accumulation of snow by afternoon.

Winds of between 35 and 50 miles per hour (56 to 80 kilometers per hour) are also forecast, enough to knock down trees.
