“Let them go to all the centers, we now have 140 education centers open to reinforce the teachers, the young people who are missing, the administrative staff, so that they can get vaccinated,” he said.
Until yesterday, 6,069,351 people had received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, of these 4,907,89 already have the second and 942,398 the third.
According to the latest vaccination update by province, 68.6% of the target population has received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine and 57.2% of these have the second.
Increase in infections
In the last five days, 2,080 people have been infected, 87.8% more than the cases reported between August 21 and 25, when 1,107 positives were accumulated.
For August 25, the daily positivity was at 6.97%, while that of the last four weeks was at 6.10%. By August 30, these indicators were at 18.89% and 7.13%, respectively.
Yesterday the health authorities reported 550 new infections and three deaths from COVID-19, through 2,911 tests to detect the virus.
According to bulletin number 561 of the General Directorate of Epidemiology, the country accumulates 359,597 cases of coronavirus, of which 5,780 remain active (183 more than those reported on Thursday), while 349,768 have recovered from the disease since the beginning of the pandemic.
President Luis Abinader himself warned this Thursday about an increase in cases, after the start of the school year.
“The level of contagion has increased due to the issue of being present in schools,” said the president when he started a new vaccination plan against the coronavirus from the Mexico City Polytechnic in Santiago.
With the day, which will be held in 140 educational centers simultaneously, the Government intends to complete the reinforcement of the third dose for teachers, as well as for students from the age of 12.
