Between Ma’ruf Amin’s Work Style and ‘King of Silent’ Allegations

Jakarta

BEM Semarang State University Student Family (WELL KM Unnes) pinned a nickname ‘King of Silent’ to Vice President Ma’ruf Amin. Spokesman for Ma’ruf Amin, Masduki Baidlowi, said that the students did not fully see the tasks that had been carried out by Ma’ruf Amin. He assessed that the criticisms given regarding Ma’ruf’s performance needed to be compared.

“I want to emphasize that what was stated by fellow students, observers who partially saw it, did not fully see the actual problem,” said Masduki in his press conference, Wednesday (7/7/2021).

Masduki said Ma’ruf worked to coordinate the work delegated by President Jokowi. The President and Vice President are also called non-executory workers.

“The president and vice president are not executive workers, they are not executing, it is the ministries and institutions that execute. The vice president works to coordinate the work that is actually done by the president but then delegated to the vice president. That’s the vice president’s job,” he said.

Masduki said that so far Ma’ruf Amin had worked quite well. According to him, what Ma’ruf has done is not always voiced because Ma’ruf has a low profile style.

“As far as the main task of the function is concerned, the Vice President in my eyes and the eyes of the other accompanying team has worked quite well. That then work is not always echoed, not always voiced, that’s right. Because indeed our Vice President with his low profile style has his own arguments which we often bring up. If the President and the ministers have spoken, that’s enough,” he said.

Masduki himself said that Ma’ruf had heard the nickname given to him. Ma’ruf, said Masduki, was not angry with the nickname given, and allowed students to voice their criticisms.

“It’s okay, you already know it’s normal, just laugh. I said I asked permission that I would answer, (Ma’ruf said) ‘You answer okay, it’s okay if you don’t answer, that’s right, right? What’s the name, let the students be smart, there’s no problem,” said Masduki.
