It only took a few moments for news of the elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas to spread on social media. Very quickly, thousands of messages abound. Internet users express their horror at a tragedy that never seems to end, and assure the bereaved families of their support. Some dwell on the profile of the shooter, Salvador Ramos, whose name has just filtered.
In a tweet, Paul Gosar, Republican representative from Arizona, assures that the murderer is “a transgender leftist undocumented man named Salvatore Ramos”. The elected official, fierce detractor of immigration, is close to supremacist and nationalist currents. Relayed by hundreds of Twitter users, his message was deleted two hours after it was posted. Dozens of similar messages are posted on social media, mostly by far-right accounts. “Watch the mainstream media bury the Uvalde school shooting now that the shooter has been revealed to be Latino trans,” thus claims a user.
