Lhe meteorologist David Denehauw notes on Twitter that Belgium broke a new temperature record during the heat wave at the beginning of August. Between August 6 and 12, the average temperature was 33.5 degrees, according to the Uccle station.

The previous record dates from 1976, for almost the same period: between July 30 and August 6, the synoptic average was 33.4 degrees.

Other stations recorded an even higher average, but they did not yet exist in 1976, as David Denehauw explains.

The air will soon be more breathable

Very high ozone concentrations were recorded again on Wednesday, especially in the center and north of the country. The European information threshold (180 µg / m3) was exceeded in 23 of the 42 measurement stations, indicates the Interregional Environment Unit (Celine). These concentrations will decrease across much of the country on Thursday and air quality will improve significantly from Friday.

On Wednesday, 13 Flemish, three Brussels and seven Walloon stations recorded an exceeding of the European information threshold. The maximum hourly concentration measured was 239 µg / m³ at Sint-Kruiswinkel at 7 p.m.

This Thursday, milder weather conditions will significantly decrease ozone concentrations in much of the country, adds Celine. However, exceedances of the European information threshold are still expected in the north-east and north-west, where the sunshine will remain significant.
