Roma:
It wasn’t an easy journey, but Roma managed to squeeze past Dutch champions Feyenoord and progress to the Europa League finals. Penalties were required, with Roma drawing the longest straw, after both meetings ended 1-1. Keeper Mile Svilar was the hero with two penalty saves and looks to have cemented his position as first-choice goalkeeper in Daniele De Rossi’s side, ahead of veteran Rui Patricio.
Roma otherwise continues its rise since De Rossi replaced José Mourinho on the coaching bench in the eternal city. Under De Rossi, Roma play a significantly more attacking and positive football, where the three-back line is replaced by a more 4-3-3-like formation, which has generated both more goals and good results. Roma, who have won four of the last five in the league, have climbed to sixth place in Serie A and are very much in contention for the European places. The injury situation is also starting to look better, Chris Smalling was on the bench last time and could be eligible for the game, however Diego Llorente is expected to miss Monday’s game after leaving the Feyenoord game with a head injury.
Torino:
Ivan Juric was upbeat and praised the efforts of his players, despite losing 2-0 at home to Lazio on Thursday, and was pleased with the number of chances his side created – despite failing to manage the chances. The loss leaves Torino in tenth place in Serie A, five points behind Roma.
Juric has a couple of question marks to iron out before Monday’s game with a few blemishes here and there. On the injury list we find Perr Schuurs, Ricardo Rodríguez Alessandro Buongiorno and Mergim Vojvoda
More open than expected?
Torino rarely offer goal feasts this season, but still created quite a few against Lazio last time (1.95 Expected Goals) despite the Torino gang remaining goalless. Now you face a Roma that has been replaced under De Rossi and plays a much more open and attack-oriented football and I think we can see a bit of goal rattle here as well. All of Roma’s Serie A games have gone over the 2.5 goal line since De Rossi took over and in five out of seven games under GDR both teams have scored. The market expects typical Torino low goals and Over 2.5 goals are available at 2.40 with Betinia. Over 2 goals are available at 1.77.
