Düsseldorf International venture investors are increasingly interested in young European technology companies – for good reason: The start-ups are now more attractive to investors than US start-ups. This is shown by a data analysis by the Munich risk capital investor Earlybird for the Handelsblatt.

According to this, lenders make more returns for each euro invested than in the USA when start-ups from Europe sell and go public: Investments in Europe have increased by a factor of 11.9 in the past five years. In contrast, the factor was only 9.9 in the USA and 9.1 in Asia. The values relate to all exits, i.e. IPOs and company sales, of more than one billion dollars.

The investors see particular potential in cloud products for industry and software solutions for medium-sized companies. In these fields, “industry leaders are increasingly coming from Europe,” says Luciana Lixandru of Sequoia Capital. She heads the London European branch of the successful venture investor from Silicon Valley, which opened in 2020.
