Bettembourg. Work in Luxembourg: the gallery of border guards

It was announced, between the works of the A3 and those of the CFL, in Bettembourg, the cross-border workers in the Grand Duchy were going to have a great summer! A little booster shot is necessary. Since March 12, the start date of the widening project, traffic on the A3 motorway in Luxembourg has been slowed down (70 km/h) in both directions. The works planned to last five years involve a narrowing of the traffic lanes.

The site, which is expected to progress, generates significant slowdowns on an axis frequented daily by 90,000 vehicles, including 10,000 heavy goods vehicles. At the same time, now, no more trains run between Bettembourg and Luxembourg due to major works carried out on this line. More specifically, a complete dam is scheduled until August 7 with the establishment of replacement shuttles from the stations of Bettembourg and Thionville and no longer serving Howald.

Finally, from August 8 to September 11, the Luxembourg Railways plan, this time, to set up a partial blockade allowing reduced traffic.

A fighter’s journey

Emma, 23, from Messina, recounts her Monday morning galley: “I took the train at 7:31 a.m. in Metz and arrived at Bettembourg station at 8:20 a.m. In the parking lot, buses were waiting for us. There were several, bound for Luxembourg City and Howald. There were people from the CFL to help us, I must say it was well done. »

But the border regrets the number of buses deemed insufficient. “Leaving the station, travelers rushed to the buses and the queues were not organized. You had to push and jostle to hope to get on the bus. Once seated, the Messina finds that the bus does not take the A3 and thus avoids traffic jams. A good initiative that she welcomes.

“We passed through villages and the Cloche d’Or. I was in Luxembourg-city station at 8:45 am. In total therefore, I took 75 minutes in total to make the trip. But I was warned that the return would be worse. »
