Portuguese midfielder William Carvalho, who was injured on Friday in the match that opened the fifth round of LaLiga EA Sports and which Betis won 2-0 at the Benito Villamarín stadium against Leganés, “has a complete tear of the Achilles tendon in his right leg.”
Betis have reported that the diagnosis of the injury “has been confirmed following the tests carried out by the club’s medical services on the player” on Saturday morning. “The midfielder will have to undergo surgery in the coming days for surgical repair of the affected area,” adds the statement with the medical report, which also points out that “the recovery time will depend on his progress.”
Although Betis has not specified how long William Carlvalho will be out for, this type of injury suggests that the player will miss the entire current season.
The midfielder was injured in the first half of the match, when he made a poor pass with his right foot and immediately asked to be substituted, to the point that he left the field on a stretcher and forced his coach, the Chilean Manuel Pellegrini, to bring on Sergi Altimira in the 25th minute.
Pellegrini himself was asked after the match about the extent of the injury and referred to the medical tests that would be carried out on him this Saturday, although he was already pessimistic because it was in the area of the Achilles tendon and that he would have a “long” recovery.
