Borja Iglesias scored two goals, including one in the 87th minute, to help Real Betis beat Granada 2-1 on Monday and take another step towards a place in the Europa League next season.
The victory placed Betis in sixth position with three rounds to go, two points ahead of Villarreal. Teams in fifth and sixth place in Spain advance to the Europa League.
Real Sociedad, in fifth place and two points ahead of Betis, visit leading Atlético de Madrid on Wednesday.
Betis will visit Eibar on Thursday, while Villarreal will play that same night at the home of Valladolid, which is located in the relegation zone.
For Betis, it was their first league win after six consecutive draws. They had not beaten Granada in a league duel in five games in a row.
Iglesias opened the scoring in the 39th minute and Granada equalized the actions through Darwin Machís at 66. Iglesias scored the winning goal with an indirect free kick inside the area, after Granada goalkeeper Aarón Escandell took with hands the pass of a partner.
Granada is in 10th position.
