Bethesda Softworks’ Troubled Release of Redfall and Recent Updates

Bethesda Softworks has had quite a few troubles in recent years, but perhaps none as big as Redfall from the creators of Dishonored and Prey from Arkane Studios. At the beginning of May this year, we received in many ways a broken, unfinished, unoriginal and, above all, boring single-player and co-op shooter, which went down quite poorly with critics and players alike. So bad, perhaps, that PlayStation 5 owners might have been happy in the end that their console version had to be trashed forever after Bethesda was bought out by Microsoft, just like Bethesda Game Studios’ space RPG Starfield and Tango Gameworks’ rhythmic madness Hi-Fi RUSH.

Even after the release, the situation did not improve. One major patch was released during June/June, and with that the game’s support ended for a long time. This resulted in the number of active players shrinking considerably during those few months, with e.g in Steam statistics, it is common to see lower tens, sometimes even units of users who for some reason still start Redfall every now and then. And we have a feeling the situation isn’t much better for the Epic Games Launcher and Xbox Series X|S. Although the game is available in Game Pass, it was not possible to play it at 60 fps until now.

But that is changing now. Redfall yesterday he waited the second major update it finally brings to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S performance mode that allows gaming at 60 frames per second. So, in a way, you could say that the game now supports more frames per second on Microsoft consoles than the number of people who are probably actively playing it.

The patch also brings new control settings with a gamepad, improving accessibility or ability to silently take out Cultists and Bellwethers if you sneak up behind them with a staked weapon or some other sharp object for piercing the hearts of vampires. Yes, something like this was not possible until now.

The developers from Arkane are also inviting to PC version performance and stability improvementsUI improvements, new tutorials, balancing the enemy population during missions or more places in the Old Town and Sedgewick neighborhoods where vampire nests can appear. So it looks like someone still really cares about Redfall, although the question is whether Bethesda can still find enough players to appreciate the news.

It’s also worth noting that while Performance Mode for Xbox was by far the most anticipated and promised news related to Redfall, it’s not the only one, so the developers still have some work to do. We mean mainly two brand new playable characters to be given to Bite Back Edition and Hero Pass owners, which is part of it. But so far, no one from Bethesda or Arkane Studios has said anything concrete about the Hero Pass offer, although again, that might be a good thing. We believe that even if we get torn apart by bloodthirsty vampires, it will still be a more interesting and meaningful experience than playing Redfall again, even with a new character.
