Alex Hay had abandoned his cancer treatment because he was looking forward to the game…

“I can’t play 🙁
Since I’ve been following this project for years, the announcement of the date made me a little sad and it seems like I won’t be able to play anymore.
I was disappointed with the delay in November as I stopped treatment for lung cancer in September (35 years old, never smoked) and was looking forward to it as a distraction.
I’m currently in palliative care, my family is taking care of me, and playing my Xbox is a great escape for me. However, it is not possible to last another 6 months. So… Enjoy it for me!”

The sad news came and Alex Hay died of lung cancer. His family shared the news on Hay’s own X (aka Twitter) account.

“I want you to know that our son, Alex Hay, passed away in March after a brave battle with cancer. He was a wonderful and talented man who will forever remain in the thoughts of many of his friends, colleagues and family. I’m sorry to be the bearer of the bad news. Jack Hay”

Starfield must have seen this news because he tucked a little note into the game for his fan.

“To all my friends and fellow explorers.
I’m always with you in Starfield.
always with love,
Alex Hay.”

This is not the only gesture Bethesda Game Studios has made.
