TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan inaugurated several roads and zones named after Betawi figures. According to Anies, the names of the figures pinned are people who in the past have had an impact on the life journey of Jakarta and Indonesia.
Indonesian Political Parameter Executive Director Adi Prayitno said the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, wanted to create a nationalist and inclusive leader.
“Anies wants to create an impression as a nationalist and inclusive leader,” Adi said in a written statement on Tuesday afternoon, June 21, 2022.
According to Adi, it seems that this positioning was carried out by Anies to amend the wild accusations so far, that Anies was only close to the exclusive right-wing Islamist group.
Anies also seems to want to present himself as a leader who respects Betawi culture as the local culture of Jakarta residents.
Is this a strategy to get Anies a positive image from people outside Jakarta?
“Anies plays a double track strategy, on the one hand he wants to be seen as a figure who respects local culture and at the same time wants to stand out as an inclusive figure,” said Adi.
“Of course, this will be Anies’ preparation for the 2024 presidential election,” he added.
For information, Governor Anies explained that the Betawi figures are individuals who are remembered and remembered because their lives were donated for progress. There are names that have become national heroes, but there are also so many meritorious names that have not been recorded as National heroes.
The former Minister of Culture and Culture said that in the Betawi Cultural Village, the names of MH Thamrin, Abdurahman Saleh, Ismail Marzuki, and H Noer Ali were already there. However, there are more Betawi scholars such as HM Saleh Ishak, Sheikh Juned Al Batawi, Ahmad Suhaimi, H Darip, Entong Fat, and Kyai Mursalim. “As well as Guru Makmun, Habib Ali bin Ahmad, and KH Usman Perak, these are examples of scholars,” said Anies.
