What is the best sunscreen with SPF 50 or more (SPF 50+)? And which one has the best value for money? The Consumers’ Association responds.
Choosing the right sunscreen is difficult. It is especially important that you choose a sunscreen that suits your skin type. People with lighter skin need a higher sun protection factor. Even if the sun power is higher, you should take a higher factor.
Good to know: buy a sunscreen that also protects against UVA, recognizable by a logo with a blue circle with the text ‘UVA’. In addition, it is useful that you buy a cream, spray or lotion that you like to apply, that feels nice on the skin and that you like to smell. Then there is a greater chance that you will actually use it sufficiently.
On a very sunny day and if you burn faster, choose SPF 30. For children and people with very fair skin, SPF 50 (+) is the best choice.

The Consumers’ Association tests sunscreens for protection, SPF, UV filters, ease of use and ingredients, among other things.
A total of 32 reasonably to readily available sunscreens were tested, 12 of which had an SPF of 50 or more. Two sprays from Biodermal come out on top in the test (we describe the cheapest). A spray from Nivea Sun is Best Buy.

Biodermal Hydraplus Sun Spray 50plus is available at many drugstores. It offers the promised protection against UVB and more than adequately protects against UVA.
According to the manufacturer, this sunscreen absorbs quickly into the skin. In practice, this happens a little less quickly, although it does not remain visible on the skin for long. This spray does not contain any allergens and is not sticky. It does contain perfume, of which a test panel could appreciate the smell.
The downside is that this Biodermal Hydraplus contains microplastics that are not so good for the environment.
If you have children, you can buy Biodermal Kids Sun Spray SPF 50+ for one euro more. This remedy also comes out as Best in the Test, with the same average test result, although the sub-components deviate slightly from each other.

Nivea Sun Babies and kids 5-in-1 sunscreen offers the promised protection against UVB and protects sufficiently against UVA. In use, it is an excellent sunscreen that does not contain perfume, but does contain alcohol.
This sunscreen is very easy to apply. The spray is not transparent, but after applying it you hardly see it anymore. The packaging states that the formula is 62 percent biodegradable. Unlike the Best in the Test, this product does not contain microplastics.
Minuses: Nivea does not use the most environmentally friendly filters in this product. The protection against UVA is sufficient, but could be even better.
