Ideal weather, a faint crescent moon: the conditions are met to hope to see the Perseid showers, these meteors visible during the passage of the Earth in the cloud of debris from comet Swift-Tuttle. These shooting stars can be observed until August 24, but it is from August 11 to 13, ie from tonight and until Sunday, that they will be most visible.

The site of the French Association of Astronomy has listed on a carte interactive all the sites in France where the public is expected from this Friday. We detail, department by department, what awaits you in Languedoc and Roussillon.

The Cévennes National Park, labeled International Dark Sky Reserve for the quality of observation of its celestial vault, is the ideal place to hope to see shooting stars.

This evening, the Astrolab association and the Domaine des Boissets in Sainte-Enimie overlooking the Gorges du Tarn offers you a series of activities. But you will have to wait until August 15 at 9:30 p.m. for the walk under the starry sky offered by the open nature resort of Mont Lozère.

From 6:30 p.m. tonight, the ALBE (A La Belle Etoile) association from Argelliers (Hérault) awaits you at the Espace Vert Paradis, in partnership with the Planet Océan Montpellier planetarium. On the program: nocturnal observations, conferences and the possibility of eating on site.

We will give you sky maps, thanks to these you will be able to find your way around the night sky and follow the explanations of our animators. Don’t hesitate to ask for one when you arrive.

Association A La Belle Etoile, Argelliers (Hérault)

Also this Friday, the Sétoise association of astronomy ASAT invites you to the Pierres Blanches site, at the top of Mont Saint Clair, for an observation of the deep sky and the planet Saturn. Tomorrow at the same place, the ASAT will be present from 4 p.m. for an observation of the Sun, followed by a conference at 9:30 p.m. support. Always on Saturday at 7 p.m., Planet Océan Montpellier offers you an observation session guided by a scientific mediator (entrance fee). This evening, from 6 p.m., the Orion Provence club is organizing a conference followed by a night of observation. He puts his glasses and telescopes at your disposal on the esplanade of the Eugène Lacroix d’Aramon village hall. At 8:30 p.m., an evening of observation will take place at the annex inter-municipal stadium of Vigan thanks to MIRA, the astronomy club of the Pays Viganais. At 9 p.m., the astronomy school of the town of Alès opens its doors for an evening of conferences, planetarium sessions, exhibitions, tales and legends, distribution of books and observation of the starry sky. Saturday from 6 p.m. the Orion 2000 astronomy club of Beauvoisin awaits you with a meal from the bag on the municipal ground of Fiaous. Always on Saturday, at 7:30 p.m., you can also join the evening organized by the Vaunage Astronomie club at the Lauzières de Langlade stadium near Nîmes. This evening, the park of the Amphoralis Gallo-Roman potters museum in Sallèles d’Aude offers a full programme. Attention, the maximum gauge of 299 people seems to have been reached as stated on the museum’s website.

On the program: outdoor exhibition of photographs of the deep sky, cosmic calendar which transposes the age of the universe to a single year, marking the appearance of Man on the evening of the very last day of December, conference on space telescopes, new windows on space, collective and live commented description of the sky with the naked eye using lasers, continuous observation of the sky with telescopes, observation of swarms of shooting stars from the Perseids, astrophotography of the deep sky with the Stellina station connected, commented projection of the evening sky on the video projector with a computerized sky atlas.

This evening again, the Maurice Jourtau stadium in Caunes-Minervois is organizing a great night of the stars from 10 p.m. thanks to the Helios Astronomie association. Saturday from 5 p.m., the Explorarium garden of Festes-et-Saint-André has planned a great treasure hunt to discover the sky and various workshops to understand astronomical phenomena, before an observation of the sky through a telescope, punctuated by tales and legends and other entertainment. And then meet on Sunday at 9 p.m. in Bizanet to discover the sky of Corbières with the Bizanet popular astronomy association ABAP. Saturday, from 8 p.m., the Passa Astronomie association offers you an introduction to astronomy, then an observation of the sky with the naked eye in Monastir Del Camp. Finally next week, the Tautavel astronomy festival offers you a whole series of activities, starting with the Rotja Vallée Etoilée event in Fuilla, Sahore and Py-Mantet from August 16 to 20, followed by the OFF of the festival, in Py-Mantet, from August 18 to 20. The entertainment program in the western departments of Occitania is also available on website of the French Association of Astronomy. Note the success of the evening organized this evening, from 8 p.m. to midnight, at the Space City of Toulouse, for which no more places are available.
