The Best of Spain Wine Challenge Netherlands 2020 competition already knows the award-winning wines in its first edition. A selection of influential Dutch prescribers endorse the record of the launch of this project of the Spanish Union of Tasters (UEC) in the Netherlands.
Six Great Gold Medals (scores greater than 92 points), those achieved by the red labels Capote 2018 (DOP Ribera del Duero), Vega Real Roble 2019 (DOP Ribera del Duero), Corona de Aragón Garnacha Viñas Viejas 2019 (DOP Cariñena) , Cruz del Castillo Tinto Reserva 2013 (DOCa. Rioja) and Nube de Leza García Crianza 2016 (DOCa. Rioja) together with Pastora Manzanilla Pasada en Rama (PDO Jerez-Manzanilla de Sanlúcar de Barrameda) head a podium, to which thirty and one gold medals (scores above 88 points) and twenty-three silver (above 84 points), the most solid proof of the high level of qualifications obtained by the participating wines.

The rooms of the Novotel Amsterdam City Hotel were chosen for the development of the technical sessions of this contest, for which the Spanish Union of Tasters managed to bring together eight opinion leaders from the Dutch market. Responsible for purchasing large stores and importers such as Alexandra Pouderoyen (HEMA Wine Department), Anneke Staals (MITRA Wine Department), Petra Janssen MV (Vinites importer), Joep Speet MV (Delta Wines importer) and Ibert Van der Wal MV (Wijnimport importer J. Bart), top-level sommeliers such as Noel van Wittenbergh (Head Sommelier Okura Hotel Amsterdam) and Job Seuren (vice president of the Dutch Sommelier Association. Sommelier Restaurant Zoldering) and the journalist Charlotte van Zummeren (director of www.winebusiness.nl), They endorsed with their presence the rigor of the awards granted and their support for a promotional initiative such as the Best of Spain Wine Challenge.
A showcase, Best of Spain Wine Challenge, which completed its intense tasting program with two seminars aimed at showing among a large group of Dutch professionals the potential that our most eastern wine latitudes have. The Denomination of Origin Valencia with a collection of autochthonous ambassadors (varietals) and the Denomination of Origin Jumilla with a no less interesting tour of the Monastrell and its range of expressions were the protagonists of these masterclasses, for which there were two speakers from luxury: sommelier and communicator Edwin Raben and Master of Wine Cees van Casteren.
A more than promising kick-off for the Best of Spain Wine Challenge landing in the Dutch market that will undoubtedly enhance the visibility of Spanish wines in one of the preferred export destinations for our wineries.
