Best Hotels in New York City – Recommendations for a 3rd Trip in 2023

Bonjour,

what a goldmine this forum is! Gray mouse you are amazing!
I have been reading you for a few days and you have helped me a lot

I’m preparing my 3rd trip to NY but I haven’t been here since 2009 so I’m starting from scratch.
I will be with my 11 year old pre-teen at the Richland Hotel from 19-24/10.
I’m still developing our schedule but I have a question because by dint of searching, rummaging,… I get lost and I become a goat.
To pass the statue of liberty by ferry, is that the free ferry to Staten Island to catch near Battery park?
It seems to me that I had seen one that started from a little higher (high line?) but I can’t find it anymore, maybe I’m delirious haha
Also, is it worth taking the ferry to go to Gantry (Easy River line) or the metro is the same?
Another thing comes to me, should we see the Brooklyn Bridge at nightfall or it doesn’t change much if we have planned the harbor lights for example?

1000 thanks in advance for your precious help

Celine

Hello Celichou

Thank you for your kind introduction.
Let’s try not to disappoint you with the answers!

Yes, the free ferry that departs southeast of Battery Park does go to Staten Island for free and allows you to see the Statue of Liberty without the option of stopping there.

You can easily get to Gantry Plaza State Park by metro (travel included in the metrocard).
If you take the ferry that runs on the East River, you will have to pay $4 per person.
This cost is largely amortized by the beautiful river experience you will have.
That said, the Harbor Lights will offer you a similar experience at night.

The boat leaving from Pier 86 is that of Harbor Lights, so a little to the north (at W 42nd St).
There are other ferries that run on the Hudson. They are chargeable.
Recently, there is also a line that leaves from w39th St to go to Saint George (Staten Island). It’s the same price as the East River (same company): $4.

If you plan to do the Harbor Lights, you will see the Brooklyn Bridge in the conditions you describe.

Hello Celichou, just a side note: I was curious when I read the name of the hotel you chose, because I had never seen that name.
I find it expensive for a service without breakfast, in this area, on your dates.
Your stay is short, it is all the more interesting to be in a practical area (attractions accessible on foot or in the immediate vicinity of the metro) and to save time and money with a breakfast included.
Others with better locations and better standing offer better prices, breakfast included.
You may have had a very advantageous rate? Is this an editable booking?

Yes it’s a hell of a budget but it’s the cheapest I could find and I really turned the whole canvas
I paid 1370€ for the 5 nights.
I had also seen the Radio Hotel further north in the 1100€ but honestly I found it too far.
Personally the situation of Richland suits me but I must also say that I do not look at hotels below the rating “very good” on Booking
If you ever have recommendations for hotels – expensive than mine and therefore well rated (haha) I am obviously a taker. I can cancel my hotel.

A big thank-you

Ps: the breakfast included is nice but my son is easily satisfied with small cakes or other from the supermarket and me, being gluten-free,… I take my crackers with me and I manage what to put on it

You had a good price then, because it is now close to €1,900 for these dates, hence my astonishment

Oufff I did well to book it a few days ago then
Basically, I found L’asiatic hotel – Flushing. As it is a somewhat unplanned trip, I wanted to limit the expenses.
We were at – 1000€ for 7 nights but in the end, after reading several messages, I said to myself that it was not a super good idea. Suddenly, by quibbling for flight dates + a hotel in Manhattan, it’s the cheapest I could find. If I added one night, my bill went up by…700€
Do you find it so badly located?
I found it not too far from everything I wanted to see the Eldridge street synagogue and I saw that it was 2-3min walk, I was happy Hahaha

I don’t have any particular opinion on the sector, it’s just that you will often need the metro to go out and in.
I was especially surprised by the association “2 stars – Chinatown – without breakfast – 1,900€ – good reviews”

Hahaha yes indeed seen like that, it does not sell dreams.

Now I’m hesitating with the Springhill by Marriott in Chelsea There’s breakfast included and it’s a 4 star

Edit: well, I changed because the difference wasn’t so huge and it’s actually more central, a big chain and the breakfast will prevent us from playing it too “scouts”.
Honestly I’m happy, thank you for asking me about the accommodation, I feel better with this hotel in the end!!

Good then, please!
