Best day for the Dow Jones since 2020

Apart from a brief period in which the Nasdaq declined, there was only a surge to glimpse among the leading indices on Wall Street on Friday:

  • Dow Jones rose by as much as 2.51 percent – an increase of 834 points – to 34,058 points.
  • S&P 500 also rose sharply, with an increase of 2.24 percent, to 4,384.
  • Nasdaq started the trading day with a decline, but quickly followed the other two. At the close of trading, it had accumulated 221 points, after an increase of 1.64 percent.

Much AdoThe index, which measures put options on the S&P 500 and hence also the volatility, fell by 9.20 per cent, to 27.54.

The yield on the ten-year US government bond – «the ten-year-old»- stood virtually at rest, with a marginal decrease of 0.7 basis points to 1.965 percent.

Record day

The rise in the Dow Jones is the largest intraday rise in several years. We must return to the end of 2020 to see a similar increase.
