‘Best chef in the world’ Guy Savoy loses his third Michelin star

The French top chef Guy Savoy, the best chef in the world according to ‘La Liste’ for six years in a row, loses a Michelin star this year. His restaurant drops from three to two stars, the Michelin guide has announced.

The restaurant ‘Guy Savoy’ in Paris has been allowed to call itself a three-star restaurant since 2002, the highest number of stars awarded by the Michelin inspectors. Savoy is a top chef: in November he was at the very top of ‘La Liste’ for the sixth time in a row (alone or ex aequo). This is a top thousand from France that combines reviews from various restaurant guides and customer reviews.

“So far I had only known the best moments in my career,” Savoy told the French news agency AFP. “Tonight I’m thinking about my teams and I’ll talk to them tomorrow. We lost the game this year, but we will win it again next year.’

The Michelin Guide also deprives another French chef of his third star: that of Christopher Coutanceau, who runs a restaurant bearing his name in La Rochelle.

“They are exceptional restaurants, so you can imagine that they are decisions that have been thought through for a long time, preceded by many visits by our inspectors and inspectors throughout the year,” said Gwendal Poullennec, who leads the Michelin Guide. He also spoke to both chefs to share the decision.

It is the first time in three years that a star has been taken from three-star restaurants in France.
