Berrretini, Monfils, Gasquet…: a “crazy” Challenger in Phoenix

While the Indian Wells Masters 1000 is entering its home stretch this week, the Arizona Tennis Classic will be held in parallel with a table also worthy of a big tournament on the main circuit.

This Challenger endowed with $220,000 and disputed (on hard) in Phoenix will indeed recover a good number of disappointed Indian Wells and not the least, since Matteo Berrettini, Diego Schwartzman and Gaël Monfils all requested a wild-card after having were quickly eliminated in California.

Monfils, who will therefore play his second match since his big comeback after the one lost to Jordan Thompson last week in Indian Wells, will be opposed to a qualifier. And why not a Frenchman since Enzo Couacaud, Geoffrey Blancanaux and Benoît Paire, who has just regained a title on a Challenger in Mexico, are among the entrants for these qualifications, which begin on Monday.

We will find many other Tricolores in the final draw and again, not the least: Richard Gasquet, Arthur Rinderknech, Constant Lestienne, Quentin Halys and Grégoire Barrère (the latter two being opposed in the first round) will also be in the game in Arizona, where we should therefore play steel all week.
