The soaring of SC Bern is over for the time being. Mario Kogler’s team missed an almost perfect week at the 1: 4 in Lugano with the third win in a row.
With the cup victory in their pocket, the SCB suddenly rushed from victory to victory this week. The 4: 3 nP against Servette (on Tuesday) was followed by a 5: 2 in Davos on Thursday. The next day, however, the still reigning Swiss champions failed to improve their position in the battle for a place in the pre-playoffs during their guest appearance in Lugano.
Bern never came close to winning points in southern Ticino. Lugano started the first break with a three-goal lead. The 2-0 for the Bianconeri was scored by Luca Fazzini (after a foul by Pestoni on Walker) with a foul penalty. The decisive 3: 0 by Mikkel Bödker fell 17 seconds before the end of the starting third.
Bern’s deficit in 10th place is still four points, with the Bernese having to play four to six more games than the direct competition at the bottom of the table by the end of the qualification. Meanwhile, thanks to the second win in the second season duel with Bern, Lugano improved its starting position in the fight for a direct playoff place and advanced to 6th place at Davos’ expense.
Servette wins Romand derby
Servette has found its way back to success after two defeats. In the fourth duel of the season with Friborg-Gottéron, Geneva kept the better end to themselves for the third time and won 3-0 at home. Geneva’s goalie Gauthier Descloux became the man of the game, with 40 saves in the fourth season shutout.
The goals of the Servettias fell nicely among the individual thirds and two-thirds were due to foreign personnel. In addition to the Canadian Daniel Winnik, who scored 2-0 in the 29th minute after a terrible bad pass by Andrei Bykov, his compatriot Guillaume Asselin was also among the goalscorers in his second appearance in the National League. The striker from Quebec, who usually hunts for goals for Sierre in the Swiss League, scored the Genevans to victory in extra time on his debut in January in Zurich’s Hallenstadion.
Servette made up a place in the table and is now fifth. For their part, Friborg-Gottéron, who recently impressed with four wins from five games, could not benefit from the ZSC Lions’ 5-1 defeat the day before in Lausanne. The team of coach Christian Dubé is thus still in third place behind the Zurich team with the same number of points.
