There is no doubt. The TSE resolution says textually, exhaustively, that Bernardo Arévalo and Karin Herrera are elected president and vice president of Guatemala by the popular will, as of this date and will exercise their functions from January 14, 2024 to January 14 four years later. . That is what yesterday’s statement from the TSE can be summarized as. It is the same for the deputies and mayors elected in this process. Everything has ended. It’s already a matter of judgment.
While Semilla enters the suspension phase and resolves the blemishes that exist through an administrative process, they recover their status as a public law institution, and all their rights as a bench in the legislative body. Make no mistake: everything related to the Semilla party will be aired by the TSE and the electoral and political party law. So simple and clear.
The post-electoral judicial battle was won with the massive participation of the Guatemalan people, in fact, of the four peoples that make up the society of this country. Without the overwhelming victory of Bernardo uy Karin in the elections and without the national uprising led by the indigenous peoples, the result that we have today as acquisitions would have been complicated. Now we know that the organized and mobilized people can counter any attempted judicial or other coup.
When I talk about res judicata, I mean that, currently, except for judicial nonsense, which in other conditions should be rejected ex officio, there is nothing that can affect the fact that in Guatemala today, we have a president, vice president, mayors and elected representatives. That cannot be reversed, it is impossible for it to be adulterated. That long wait in this complex transition is now over.
We must be attentive and prepared for the construction of the spring that awaits us. We have the essential changes in sight. There is nothing that we do not know, there is nothing that we cannot modify if we maintain unity, cohesion, the will to make this country one about which no one has to complain or be ashamed.
Today we can taste the cold cuts in peace.
