Bernard Tapie gives news after his violent burglary

In an interview with Release, Bernard Tapie looks back on the 45 minutes during which he and his wife were violently assaulted during a burglary at their home, on the night from Saturday to Sunday.

Three days after the violent “home jacking” of which the Tapie couple in Seine-et-Marne were victims, the businessman gave his news in a brief daily interview Release, in which he reconsiders the violence of his attackers.

“The simple pleasure of hurting us”

On the night of Saturday to Sunday, four men entered the couple’s residence in Combs-la-Ville, assaulted them for about 45 minutes, says Bernard Tapie, before fleeing with jewelry.

“They punched my wife in the face, me strapped to a chair. She was screaming. I went through this episode as if I was personally being hit.”

In his eyes, the criminals were violent because they were “disappointed with what they were able to steal on the spot, not up to their expectations” but also “for the simple pleasure of hurting us.”

“It could have ended a lot worse”

The 78-year-old man, who suffers from double cancer of the stomach and esophagus, has notably received “a baton on the head” and does not yet know if he will have consequences. “The doctors will tell me in two days,” he says.

They confirm that his attackers were hooded, gloved and dressed in black overalls and therefore it will not be easy to identify them.

“It’s a bit hard to take, but it will pass,” said Bernard Tapie, before adding: “it could have ended a lot worse.”

Monday evening, the Paris prosecutor’s office announced that it would take up the case, the specialized interregional jurisdiction of the capital being competent in matters of organized crime.
