  Bernard Hill has died. The British actor, known, among others, for his great roles in “Titanic” and “The Lord of the Rings”, passed away at the age of 79.

  Information about the actor’s death was confirmed by his agent.

  Hill’s breakthrough role was in the BBC drama Boys from the Blackstuff. However, he gained great fame with his role in James Cameron’s “Titanic”, where he played the role of Captain Edward James Smith.

  Viewers also loved him for his portrayal of King Theoden from Peter Jackson’s film adaptation of “The Lord of the Rings.” Bernard Hill joined the cast of the second film, 2002’s The Two Towers, and returned to the franchise for 2003’s The Return of the King, which won 11 Oscars.

  Hill was scheduled to appear at Comic Con in Liverpool on Saturday, but canceled at the last minute. The organizers on the X platform said they were devastated by the news of the actor’s death.
