It would be a battle between three leaders of Jumbo-Visma and three of Ineos. They would put each other on fire up to Paris. But after two weeks of the Tour de France, there was no question of a duel between both teams.
Three of the six intended leaders were not even at the start in Nice. Steven Kruijswijk (Jumbo) had to fail because he suffered a fracture in his shoulder due to a fall in the Dauphiné, Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas (Ineos) because they did not have the form to be of value to their team in the Tour .
And while Primoz Roglic takes full advantage of Tom Dumoulin’s head work, Bernal is unable to make a fist with his Ineos servants. The reigning Tour winner can forget about a new overall victory. The Colombian lost more than seven minutes in the mountain stage to the Grand Colombier.
