The derby between SCB and Fribourg-Gottéron is when the two camps of fans whistle at each other and welcome the visiting team with whistles. There was a real derby atmosphere in the game too, especially in the final section.
Reideborn the wizard – Moser with the helm – Emond with the Coach’s Challenge
Already in the opening minute, Adam Reideborn had to solve a wrong play by Simon Kindschi. The Swede made several saves against Julien Sprunger and Kilian Mettet. On the other hand, Simon Moser took the early lead with his first shot at Reto Berra. Less than three minutes had been played. So you could feel the derby feeling on the ice!
The guests tried to answer and again Reideborn married miraculously. He was a Bernese magician at the start and he spoiled Fribourg, an early lead and the equalizer straightaway. This enthusiasm was transferred to those before him. In the next attack at Bern, Fribourg’s defense was put under a lot of pressure.
In the ninth minute, SCB was already ahead by two lengths. Marc Marchon scored his (apparently) second goal of the season after a good pass from Thierry Schild. But Patrick Emond took the Coach’s Challenge due to possible goalkeeper interference and was proved correct. He led 1-0.
The SCB then controlled the game, but it did not become dangerous until the 17th minute. Then Maximilian Streule injured his knee in a fight with Marco Lehmann on the boards and left the ice limping. And shortly before the break it was Moser who got a dangerous finish in front of Bernarray.
Anyway, the guys like Louis Füllmann in defense and Alain Graf in attack looked good. Graf was up against Andreas Borgman and Lucas Wallmark on the attack, Füllmann ensured that no opponent went past the boards and was involved in the only goal so far with an assist.
Lehmann makes it 2-0 – Bern also take on the coach’s challenge – Marchon the unlucky raven
Friborg started the middle period with Dave Sutter tripping Victor Ejdsell. The SCB played their first power game, but the hosts made a good disturbance and almost gave the Bernese team a chance. After the punishment ended, Mutzen had to release another level of pressure. This was successful. Bern established himself in the opponent’s field. Benoit Jecker lost the puck to Ejdsell, the Swede passed to Czarnik, who kicked his shot off Berra. Marco Lehmann was right and scored to make it 2-0. On Tristan Scherwey’s next chance, Berra dropped it back and Schild couldn’t put the lumpy bag in the goal. Now there was fire!
In front of Reideborn, Sprunger pushed the puck over the line. The goal was preceded by a goalkeeper block and a hand pass. Jussi Tapola also accepted the Coach’s Challenge. The goal was canceled. But the visitors always got the better of the game and Dave Sutter brought Friborg back closer thanks to a kind assist from Marchon, who headed the puck into his own goal.
Friborg continued, Bern lacked energy and speed. SCB had a chance before the break, Czarnik hit the sideline from close range.
6 goals in the last period – Berra blew the fuses
Fribourg-Gottéron started the last period with a power play. The home side survived the penalty unscathed, but missed the first half effort. Reideborn married against Wallmark, who tried between the schooners. Sutter almost scored his second goal. His rejection hit Reideborn’s goal in the 49th minute.
SCB had the target from the 50th minute. A long pass from Ramon Untersander was the reason for Marco Lehmann’s aerial goal. After Untersander, Czarnik went past Moser, who kicked his shot from Berra and Lehmann pushed the puck out of the air towards the goal. That was his seventh goal of the season. Now Friborg fell apart. A powerful shot from Ejdsell released Berra, but it was thwarted by Freiburg’s skate.
The Fribourg goalkeeper’s fuse blew 27 seconds later. The result was two broken sticks – including this one from Bearna – and maybe even a broken gang door. The national goalkeeper was tired of him and left the ice alone. The coaching bench around Patrick Emond at Gottéron was still blank and speechless. Bernese fans – including those sitting in their seats – jumped to “Wär nid gumpet isch ke Bärner”. SCB is now moving into the top 3.
Fribourg was humiliated and went from second to last place. Only Ajoie is worse. Surprisingly for Fribourg, Rönnberg will not come to the next season. Dominik Binias and Marcus Sörensen gave Friborg one last sign of life to make it 5:3. All Emond had to do then was take out the keeper, but the empty net sent SCB out.
