The Bernese unemployment insurance office is being reorganized and is increasingly focusing on digitalization. Some of the workforce is severely affected by this.

The canton of Bern announced this on Wednesday. In the future, the regional employment centers (RAV) will have five locations.

Cancellation of multiple locations

The locations in Gümligen, Zollikofen, Bern-Zentrum, Langenthal and Spiez will be closed. The unemployment fund will have two locations in Bern-Ost and Biel.

Of the 474 employees, 103 will have to reapply for a management or administrative role.

New tasks for employees

109 people will work at a new location or in a different team. 250 people are not directly affected by the reorganization.

The office expects the AVAdigital project to professionalize customers, as was said at an information event for the workforce.
