Berlinguer: “Boccia wanted to say that his nomination was blocked by Arianna Meloni”. The reply: “Never said”

Tuesday night’s interview Mary Rosaria Boccia “È sempre Cartabianca” was cancelled after the presenter, Bianca Berlinguerasked his guest to document with “evidence” the alleged “intervention of Arianna Meloni” to block her nomination to the Ministry of Culture. Berlinguer herself specifies this in a statement reconstructing the story. Boccia’s response arrived shortly after, denying everything on Instagram: “You asked me about Arianna Meloni and the nomination – he wrote -. I replied that I knew of the existence of a conversation between Sangiuliano and Arianna Meloni but not that it was you who blocked the nomination. I remind you that this was the only moment in my story where you smiled twice (pleased) and was focused”.

On the interview that was cancelled, Berlinguer explains: “Last night Maria Rosaria Boccia was scheduled to participate in my broadcast, scheduled for Monday, with a single interview conducted by me; and then, at her explicit request, extended to other journalists, whose names had been communicated to her well in advance (Quote from Gregory, Annalisa Chirico, Alessandro Sallusti e Andrea Scanzi). Since the day before, when we agreed on the terms of her participation, Maria Rosaria Boccia had been asking for my questions to be communicated to her in writing, a request that we have never accepted for any guest. So I sent Dr. Boccia a summary of the general topics that we would be discussing in our face-to-face meeting, also specifying that it would be up to the other journalists to decide which questions to ask her in the subsequent talk”.

“Here they don’t want the truth, held for two hours in the dressing room”. This is how the interview of Maria Rosaria Boccia by Bianca Berlinguer was skipped

Berlinguer: “Boccia wanted to say that his nomination was blocked by Arianna Meloni”. The reply: “Never said”

The journalist explains: “When we met I confirmed that, on my part, there would be no objection whatsoever to any news or ‘truth’ that she wanted to tell. From the first moment I was convinced that the only point of conflict was my unwillingness to provide her in advance and in writing with the questions that I would ask her”.

So, he reconstructs, “a few hours before the broadcast, Maria Rosaria Boccia showed us the transcript, made by her, of an alleged conversation between Gennaro Sangiuliano and his wife in which the former minister allegedly stated that he had not had an intimate relationship with Boccia. This together with the hypotheses on the fact that his failure to be appointed as a consultant to the ministry was due either to the concern for a possible conflict of interest or to pressure from Sangiuliano’s wife or to the shortcomings of his curriculum or finally to the intervention of Arianna Meloni. When I began to ask her what evidence she could provide to support such serious claims, Mrs. Boccia declared that I had not studied her story enough, that I was not prepared for her story and that there was not the necessary feeling between us; accusing me of being interested only in gossip and political gossip rather than in the as yet unrevealed ‘truths’ that she wanted to tell”.

Finally, Berlinguer concludes: “As for the accusation of having been held in the dressing room against her will, one can only smile. In thirty-five years of profession I have never found myself in a similar situation and from this moment I no longer intend to respond to the statements of Maria Rosaria Boccia”.
