Knife attacks occurred in the Berlin districts of Neukölln and Wedding last night. Several people were injured, one of whom had to undergo emergency surgery.

In Two knife attacks took place in Berlin last night. Several people were injured. Both attacks were preceded by disputes between the perpetrators and victims.

An altercation broke out at around 8:40 p.m. on Zwiestädter Strasse in Berlin-Neukölln, the “Berliner Zeitung” reported. A man was stabbed in the neck with a knife and then dragged himself to nearby Böhmische Strasse. There he collapsed in front of a restaurant, bleeding heavily. Witnesses and rescue workers treated the injured man on the spot. The man later underwent emergency surgery in a hospital. The suspect turned himself in to the police after a brief escape. It is unclear how the injured man is doing now. Police investigations are ongoing.

The number of knife attacks in Berlin has been increasing for years

A few hours later, another knife attack occurred in the Berlin district of Wedding. Several people got into an argument at Leopoldplatz, and one of them pulled out a knife and injured two men. One of them suffered head injuries, the other one back injuries. According to the “Berliner Zeitung”, the victims were attacked by over 20 people. In this case, too, the police are investigating the dangerous bodily harm.

Just recently, Berlin’s Charité reported that it had already had to treat as many stab wounds in the first half of 2024 as it would normally treat in an entire year. In addition, the severity of the stab wounds has increased. The Berlin police also registered more knife attacks last year. In total, the authority registered 3,482 cases in which a knife was used. Compared to 2022, that is 165 more cases, which corresponds to an increase of five percent in one year.
