Berlin – The 57th Berlin Theater Meeting, which was actually canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, is now taking place virtually as a “Special Edition”: From May 1st to 9th, six productions of this year’s 10 selection will be shown on nachtkritik.de and on the online platform ” Berliner Festspiele on Demand “presented. There are also online discourses on “Digital Practice at the Theater” and the final jury discussion.
After a greeting from festival director Yvonne Büdenhölzer, the virtual theater meeting opens on May 1, 8 p.m., with the 3sat television recording of the Bochum production “Hamlet” directed by Johan Simons. In the following days, further productions can be seen, “which correspond to the digital presentation form from an artistic perspective and / or in the technical requirements”, as it is said in a broadcast today. These are “Anatomy of a Suicide” directed by Katie Mitchell, “The Insults of Humanity” directed by Anta Helena Recke, “Süßer Vogel Jugend” directed by Claudia Bauer, “Chinchilla Arschloch, waswas” directed by Helgard Haug and “The Vacuum Cleaner” directed by Toshiki Okada. The 24-hour online premieres are accompanied by subsequent discussions with participating artists and representatives of the Theatertreffen jury.
