Berlin (dpa / bb) – Several Berlin schools have canceled their planned trips to Paris against the background of the riots in France. Many parents, but also many teachers, were worried, said a spokesman for the Senate Department for Education on Monday. Four schools therefore contacted the education administration at the weekend. In agreement with them, the school authorities revoked the travel permit. The “Tagesspiegel” newsletter “Checkpoint” (Monday) had previously reported on this.
There is no travel warning from the Federal Foreign Office, trips to France can take place in principle, said the spokesman. The Senate administration can therefore not generally prohibit class and study trips. “If there are any doubts, the schools can contact the education administration,” said the spokesman. The Senate administration offers advice. The number of school trips starting this week or next is manageable. The summer holidays in Berlin will start in a week’s time on Thursday.
Since the death of a 17-year-old by a police bullet during a traffic stop last Tuesday, France has been shaken by riots, especially at night. There were repeated looting, arson attacks and violent confrontations between police officers and rioters. More than 3,000 people have been arrested across the country since the riots began.
