Today, four Berlin school newspapers were awarded prizes at the state school newspaper competition in Hamburg: they achieved first place [lit.]magazine of the Ernst Litfaß School (OSZ media design and media technology) in the “Vocational Schools” category: This [lit.] According to the jury, the magazine impressed with its sensitive approach to the topic of “mental health”. “Anna Freud Culture”, the school newspaper of the Anna Freud School (OSZ for Social Welfare I), achieved second place in the same category. Limits was the topic that, according to the jury, was dealt with in a very appealing way.
Third place in the “Primary School” category was achieved by “Das Karlchen”, the student newspaper of Neukölln’s Karlsgarten Elementary School, for its edition about stars and social media. The special prize from the Federal Agency for Civic Education went to the school newspaper “Moron” from the Carl-von-Ossietzky-Gymnasium in Pankow, which wrote an article on the topic “Still wall(s) on your mind? – Stories on your doorstep”.
Christina Henke, State Secretary for Education: “I would like to warmly congratulate the Berlin school newspapers that won awards in Hamburg and their young editors. This is a great success! The school newspapers that have now received awards in the Germany-wide competition had qualified for the federal competition in Hamburg through the Berlin state competition. This shows us once again: The Berlin school newspaper competition is an important platform for young people to raise their voices and share their thoughts and ideas. As State Secretary for Education, Youth and Family, I can announce that the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family is responsible for financing this school newspaper competition. We firmly believe that the competition will help stimulate students’ interest in journalism and media and promote their creative abilities. I would like to encourage all students to actively participate in the competition and present their unique perspectives.”
The state school newspaper competition is organized by the Youth Press Germany in collaboration with the states. The Berlin school newspaper competition is a cooperation project between the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family, the Berlin-Brandenburg youth press, the jup! Berlin and the Tagesspiegel as media partners.
