Berlin procures a further 680,000 FFP2 / KN95 masks for schools, daycare centers and youth welfare

The state of Berlin will soon provide a further 680,000 FFP2 / KN95 masks for employees in schools, daycare centers and inpatient youth and integration assistance facilities. The Berlin Senate today approved a corresponding concept from the Senate Administration for Education, Youth and Family. The FFP2 / KN95 masks are issued to employees who work on site in the facilities between the winter and Easter holidays.

Sandra Scheeres, Senator for Education, Youth and Family: “We want to protect the employees who work in schools and daycare centers as well as in residential groups during the lockdown. At the same time, we are making preparations for the time afterwards, when schools and daycare centers gradually return to face-to-face and regular operations. When this will be possible depends on the further infection process. ”

The public and independent schools receive a total of around 350,000 FFP2 / KN95 masks. Around 260,000 masks are planned for the daycare area and around 70,000 masks for inpatient youth and integration assistance. The FFP2 / KN95 masks are designed to protect the almost 100,000 employees as best as possible. Around 500,000 euros are available for purchase. It is planned to start distributing the masks over the course of the next week.

The state of Berlin has already provided mouth and nose covers for school employees several times. Most recently, in December 2020, a total of 1.75 million mouth and nose protective masks and around 100,000 FFP2 masks for educational staff were delivered to schools. 8.3 million mouth and nose protective masks have been ordered and provided for secondary school students. There are currently larger stocks in the schools that can still be used.

The Berlin daycare centers received a total of 2.5 million euros in 2020 for the purchase of protective materials. In the past year, 300,000 face-to-face masks and other protective materials were passed on to youth welfare institutions and integration aid institutions.
