Ricardo Lange, 39, works as a nurse in Berlin intensive care units with a focus on Covid. Here he reports every week about night shifts, makeshift arrangements and glimmers of hope.
The pandemic is weakening more and more. Are there any new additions to the Covid intensive care unit at all?
We added two corona deniers last week. It’s awesome: They have the disease and still don’t want to admit that it exists. They’re arguing around with us. According to the motto: It’s all nonsense!
What do you doubt?
For example, that they have to wear a Niv mask. It is strapped around the mouth and nose so that air enriched with high percentage oxygen can be pressed into the lungs. One said: “What’s that supposed to do? I didn’t need it yesterday either. “The doctor replied:” And the day before yesterday you were still at home. “
Why does he even get a mask if he doesn’t want it?
Of course, you still have to help the sick person. The doctor even stayed with him longer to explain to him that it was a process in which the disease was worsening. You have to be careful there.

Is your station emptying?
No, it is filled with patients who have other diseases. For example, today I no longer had a Covid patient to care for, but one with a multi-resistant germ that antibiotics are hardly effective against. In the past, people with this type of germ were cared for one-to-one so that these germs could not be dragged to others. But due to a lack of staff, I was responsible for two other patients. Because even if Corona becomes less: The grievances in care remain.
