Berlin – A difficult operation for the Berlin fire service – and twice! Within seven hours, a house on Forbacher Strasse caught fire twice.
On Monday evening at around 6:15 p.m., the fire brigade was called to the apartment building in Berlin-Zehlendorf for the first time and extinguished a fire in the roof of a semi-detached house. One resident was taken to hospital.
Shortly before 2 a.m. on Tuesday night, the emergency services had to arrive a second time. This time, the entire upper part of the house was on fire.
Difficult operation for the fire brigade in Berlin
The fire brigade was on site with around 70 emergency personnel during the night and extinguished the fire using two turntable ladders, which were difficult to position in the narrow street. The firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to the other half of the house. The emergency services also used a special extinguishing foam, which was able to quickly extinguish the flames.
According to initial findings, there is a risk of the burning half of the house collapsing, which is why the fire could only be extinguished from the outside. The building inspectorate is still checking whether the other half is also affected. The operation lasted several hours. Two volunteer fire departments were called to the scene to cover further operations.
