Across Berlin, 41,500 socially disadvantaged schoolchildren will soon receive a tablet. The school inspectorate has now identified this need in schools. Berlin is receiving around 25.7 million euros from the federal government’s immediate equipment program, which can be used to purchase 40,000 digital devices for schoolchildren. The state of Berlin is now financing the other 1,500 devices from its own resources. An additional 1.3 million euros from state funds are required for the financing.
Sandra Scheeres, Senator for Education, Youth and Family: “We will provide the additional funds of 1.3 million euros from the current budget of my administration. This means that we can provide a mobile device to all students with a reported need. In this way we avoid having to make a selection or even having to make cuts in the equipment. ”
In the first half of the year, on the initiative of the Senate Education Administration, Berlin procured 9,500 tablets for schoolchildren during the corona pandemic, which were financed with state funds.
The tender for the other 41,500 tablets is divided into several so-called lots. Three different device providers with the Android, iOS and Windows operating systems were taken into account. In the future, teachers in Berlin will also receive digital devices from the federal government’s equipment program.
