Berlin children’s concerts start again | MUSIC TODAY

Berlin (MH) – After an almost two-year break, the children’s concerts by the radio station rbbKultur and the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin (DSO) are returning. To kick off the series for children aged six to twelve, two concerts are planned for November, the orchestra announced on Friday. The last children’s concert took place on January 26, 2020. In June 2020, a children’s concert video was recorded without an audience and published online.

Before the start of the corona pandemic, the rbbKultur children’s concerts were always well attended and often sold out, said a spokesman for the station. Over 75 percent of the tickets have already been booked for the event on the weekend after next. Even before the pre-sale began, there were many inquiries. “The interest and the need are still great,” said the spokesman.

The concert series is in its 17th season. A suite from Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet “Cinderella” is on the program on November 7th, and excerpts from Engelbert Humperdinck’s opera “Hansel and Gretel” will be performed on November 28th. The concerts each last an hour without a break. The usual “Open House”, in which the young visitors get to know and try out the instruments before the concert begins, could not be offered on the two dates due to the pandemic, it was said. Instead, digital education material will be sent to all card buyers in advance by email. Further children’s concerts are planned for March, May and June 2022.
