Berlin Authorities Ban Pro-Palestinian New Year’s Eve Demonstration: “No Celebration during Genocide” Rally Banned Due to Threat of Violence

Berlin authorities have banned a pro-Palestinian demonstration on New Year’s Eve.

This was reported by “European Truth” with reference to DW.

According to law enforcement, there is a threat “that the meeting will lead to incitement, anti-Semitic chants, glorification of violence,” and thus to “intimidation and violence.”

The rally under the slogan “No celebration during genocide” was announced for the period from 22.30 on New Year’s Eve to one in the morning on January 1. Organizers of the protest accuse Israel of committing “genocide” during the war against the Hamas terrorist movement in the Gaza Strip.

The ban on a rally can be appealed in court. At the same time, the announced action aroused criticism, in particular due to the additional burden on the police, who already work overtime on New Year’s Eve.

Last year in Berlin there were riots and attacks on security forces using pyrotechnics.

German Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Feser, against the backdrop of reports of the detention of suspects in the preparation of terrorist attacks on churches in Europe, emphasized that terrorists will not limit the way of life of Europeans.

Before this she stated that fears a repeat of New Year’s riots and attacks on emergency services in Berlin and other cities.
